I have a project I am working on right now for a friend that involves try to incorporate actual antiques into practical pieces like a bathroom vanity. It can be very time consuming to find the right piece of furniture to fit the situation. I like to do some research first and scout the antique websites locally for pieces whose size I think would work first. For example, the picture on the left is a Mahogany side board circa 1910. Its about the right age for the client and the doors appear to be large enough to hide plumbing. Hiding the plumbing is not always necessary - as the plumber can use polished drains that look attractive, but its better to either hide all of the plumbing or have all/most of it showing. Anything in between just looks too unfinished. With this particular piece, I am going to recommend we add a stone top and a vessel sink. The finished piece should resemble something like this:
